WORKSHOPS
A core feature of Rapiersharp is the provision of a wide range of dynamic workshops in all aspects of dramatic combat. These cover all the conventional weapon systems used in stage and screen combat as well as a range of ethnic weapons, exotic martial art forms and comedy/slapstick violence. Examples of Rapiersharp Workshops include:
Introduction to Unarmed Combat
Experience the basic techniques of unarmed stage combat and learn a short fight sequence.
- Basic/Intermediate/Advanced Stage Combat
A structured series of workshops in which the techniques of armed and unarmed stage combat are explored from introductory level right up to professional standard.
- The Swords of Shakespeare
A practical exploration of the greatest dramatic moments from Shakespeare’s classic fights such as Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth.
- Swashbuckling Adventures
Captain Blood, Scaramouche, D’Artagnan and many others have set the screen alight with flamboyant derring do – now it’s your turn!
- Brawl Ridiculous
Bar Room Brawls and Street Fighting - Learn how to throw punches, kick, strangle and generally get down and dirty - not for the faint-hearted!
- Film Fights
Learn the fights inspired by films such as Star Wars, Rocky, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Musketeers.
- Fighting on Camera
Experience the way fights are choreographed and filmed and learn the ‘tricks of the trade’ for creating sensational screen action.

- Found Weapons - or how to kill someone with an umbrella!
When a fight breaks out where you least expect, anything can be used as a weapon. Learn how both safely and effectively, particularly useful for domestic conflicts/muggings etc.
- Bish, Bash, Bosh!
Learn comic violence and slapstick mayhem. From clowning to Commedia dell’Arte – it’s a laugh a minute but precision and timing are the key.
- Hero for a Day
Sample the thrilling oriental martial arts made famous in the films Hero,
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The House of Flying Daggers and The Last
Samurai.
- Kalaripayattu
An introduction to this unique and beautiful martial art of South India using a
variety of fighting styles fused with choreography based on powerful animal
imagery. This is a rare chance to experience the exciting and dynamic system of Kalaripayattu.
Workshops are usually offered on a half-day and full-day basis (or multiples thereof) and can be customized to your exact requirements. We normally work with a maximum of 16 in a group with a single instructor but this can go up to 20 depending on the age and ability of the participants.
SET TEXTS
Rapiersharp also offers workshops that are focussed on the dramatic action of set texts from the Drama and English curricula of the main examination boards.These workshops cover the historical context of the play, the staging of the action and conclude with a practical examination of the dramatic action of key fight scenes. Texts that we cover include:

- Full instruction and supervision by an accredited British Academy of Dramatic Combat (BADC) Instructor

What You Need to Provide:
- Appropriate working space
- 1 member of staff for every 10 young people (under 16)
- 1 member of staff for every 20 young people (over 16)
